MJSF Accepting Hall of Fame Nominations
Bloomfield Hills, MI - The Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation (MJSF) is accepting nominations for induction into its prestigious Hall of Fame. There are two categories for selection: Athletes and Non-Athletes, such as coaches, team owners, administrators, sports media, etc. All nominees must have made proven, significant contributions to their sport to be considered. Join the festivities as the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation (MJSF) celebrates 25 years of service and commitment to the community on Monday, November 2, 2009, at 6:00 p.m., at the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, in West Bloomfield. The celebration will begin in the Hall of Fame, where 25 years of plaques of notable Jewish athletes, including Hank Greenberg, Bill Davidson, Aaron Krickstein, and Don Shane to name just a few, and honorees are hung. Cocktails, sumptuous kosher hors d'oeuvres and dinner, silent auction, and commemorative program will follow as the Class of 2009 is inducted and takes their esteemed place in MJSF Hall of Fame history. The Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation's Hall of Fame Class of 2009 includes:
- Stephen D. Greenberg;
- Dr. Stuart Kirschenbaum;
- Kathryn Krickstein-Pressel (of blessed memory);
- Richard A. Loewenstein; and
- Dr. Steven Rosen
Emanuel Steward, HOF boxing trainer of 39 World Champions, Kronk Gym Founder, and HBO ringside analyst, will receive the Alvin Foon Humanitarian Award, established to honor the memory of one of the MJSF founders and its first president.
The MJSF will also honor the Jewish News High School Male Athlete of the Year: co-winners Eric Fishman, Cranbrook Schools, and Eric Glanz, Walled Lake Central H.S; the Jewish News High School Female Athlete of the Year Abigail Cohen, Cranbrook Schools; and the Bill Hertz Memorial Scholarship Award winner Michelle Lapin, Berkley H.S. All past Hall of Fame inductees will be celebrated during the special anniversary program, and special posthumous awards will be presented to the families of Jim Grossman and Elayne Wolfson.
Proceeds from the Gala will benefit The Bear Hug Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides summer camp experiences for underprivileged, at-risk and special needs children; Camp KAT - Kids All Together, a Jewish Community Center initiative that provides support to children with special needs so they can be fully included in Center programming; and the MJSF Hall of Fame.
