Bricks & Mortar Endowment Fund

Dear Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation Supporters:

The Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation needs your help. Please don’t stop reading!

Like so many charitable organizations, the MJSF has been challenged to reach our fundraising goals due to the recent economic downturn in the Detroit Metropolitan area. Thus, we are embarking on a campaign to raise $500,000 to continue our giving to cancer and children’s charities, to perpetuate and maintain the Hall of Fame (at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield), and to secure the existence of the MJSF for futuregenerations.

The Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation is a 501(c)(3) philanthropic organization committed to raising funds to benefit health, education and the less privileged. Through tributes and major fundraising events, including the Hank Greenberg Memorial Golf Invitational and the Hall of Fame Induction Dinner, the MJSF has raised and donated well over $1,000,000 to help in the fight to eradicate cancer and to provide summer camp experiences for special needs and at-risk children.

Since its inception in 1984, thanks to the generosity of many, the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation has helped fight prostate cancer through grants to the Weisberg Cancer Treatment Center (suburban Detroit), part of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute; supports the MJSF/Karmanos Cancer Institute’s Genetic Cancer Screening Assistance Fund, an important initiative that provides genetic counseling and screening for anyone concerned about their risk of developing cancer; and has assisted other cancer charities. In addition, the MJSF has supported the Bill Hertz Memorial scholarships; the Detroit Jewish News High School Athletes of the Year program; the Jewish Community Center’s Camp KAT (Kids All Together), Fame and Maccabi Games; Kids Kicking Cancer; The Bear Hug Foundation; and the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.

In order to safeguard the viability of the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation and as a way of asking you to participate, we are reaching out to all our "fans" to support a special Bricks & Mortar Fund that will become the foundation of ensuring the robust health of our important and unique organization. The names of contributors of $500 or more will be individually engraved on a special "brick" plaque that will prominently hang in the Hall of Fame; the list will also be printed in each year’s event program.

Count me in! The Bricks & Mortar Endowment Fund is 100% tax deductible!

We thank you, in advance, for your support. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call David Blatt, executive director, at 248.592.9323.
