About MJSF

The Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation was founded in 1984 to both honor Jewish individuals who have distinguished themselves as athletes within the state of Michigan and to foster Jewish identity through athletics. It is patterned after the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame housed at the Wingate Institute in Natanya, Israel.

The Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation is a 501(c)(3) philanthropic organization committed to raising funds for charitable contributions to benefit health, education and the less privileged.

The Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation is a 501(c)(3) philanthropic organization committed to raising funds for charitable contributions to benefit health, education and the less privileged. Since its inception over 37 years ago, thanks to the generosity of many and through annual fundraising initiatives, well over $1,000,000 has been raised to help fight prostate cancer through grants to the Weisberg Cancer Treatment Center (suburban Detroit), part of the Barbara An n Karmanos Cancer Institute; the MJSF/Karmanos Cancer Institute’s Genetic Cancer Screening Assistance Fund, an important initiative that provides genetic counseling and screening for anyone concerned about their risk of developing cancer; and other cancer charities. In addition, the MJSF has supported the Stars of Tomorrow Scholarship; the Detroit Jewish News High School Athletes of the Year program; the Jewish Community Center’s Camp KAT (Kids All Together), Fame and Maccabi Games; Kids Kicking Cancer; The Bear Hug Foundation; and the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, located in the West Bloomfield (Michigan) Jewish Community Center.

The Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame is housed at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. The next time you are there, pause for a moment in the athletic wing to notice the growing number of plaques honoring the inductees. Funds for the MJSF are raised through private contributions, which are tax-deductible. For further information, contact the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation at (248) 390-5981.
